Today was a wonderful opportunity for our budding young authors to share their first published works in third grade. Our first trimester goal is for kids to be able to write personal narratives and we have worked very hard on this. We begin by learning strategies that will help us choose a topic, by thinking of a person, place, or object that matters to us. Then we list small moments we remember, focusing on little "seed" stories, not giant"watermelon" stories. We zoom in on the most important ports and include exact details from the movies in our heads. We work on including a strong lead and an ending that makes a lasting impression. And, of course, we want to have proper spelling and punctuation! All of these things came together for the children and today they were able to celebrate their success with our Author Celebration. Each child got to sit in the author's chair and after sharing, we enjoyed some homemade Friendship Bread. Check out our photo gallery to see your child's proud moment!
